Biography

This year I have been pretty busy - I've had paintings at the Curwen Gallery,W1;The Bircham Gallery,Holt;The New Craftsman,St Ives;The Russell Gallery,Putney;Hayletts Gallery,Maldon;Sentinel Gallery,Wivenhoe;Geedon Gallery,Essex;John Russell Gallery,Ipswich. I also exhibit at the Mall Galleries, London with the Royal Society of British Artists and of course at Bankside Gallery with the Royal Watercolour Society.

One of my brothers - David Winthrop is also an artist. This year he has had work with the RWS (Contemporary Watercolour Competition) the RBA, The Jerwood Drawing Competition, NOA,and The Discerning Eye, selected by Chris Orr RA

Out of 7 nieces & nephews, 1 is at CSM (4D Fine Art), 2 are at Camberwell (one graphics, one fine art) and Daisy who was at Wimbledon is now working at Wes Anderson Studio.

Born in America.
Brought up in Essex - I spent two years at Colchester School of Art in the 60's where John Nash taught plant drawing and Edward Bawden printmaking. This was followed by three years at The Central School of Art & Design,London.After several years as an 'in house' designer for various publishers I became freelance and worked on many books with my husband the artist Martin Leman. I have also had work accepted for The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Exhibition. 

 My paintings have been in many mixed exhibitions in London,Essex, Suffolk,Norfolk, Cornwall, Hampshire and Dorset.

April 2017 - I am President of the Royal Watercolour Society - the first woman President ever. The Society was founded in 1804.

I am a member of the Royal Society of British Artists.
